Hear from Lactation Consultant Deanna Grube about Workplace Support for your employees and The Break Time for Nursing Mothers Act! The Break Time for Nursing Mothers Act requires employers to provide:

a) “Reasonable break time” to express milk as often as the employee has need

b) Private space that is not a bathroom and is “shielded from view and free from intrusion from coworkers and the public” that employees can use to express milk which should include a comfortable chair that can be easily sanitized; a flat surface to support the pump; an electrical outlet with running water near by (for pump part cleaning); a small refrigerator is not a requirement, but a nice supportive measure.

Employers can also develop or improve their lactation policy and develop an internal communication plan to inform employees about lactation accommodations before their maternity leave begins! Businesses who have made Lactation Support a priority have received positive feedback from their employees and the community. Lactation support will also help improve many of the health disparities within our community.
