Celebrate a Permanent Home for Bucyrus Safety Town!

Ribbon Cutting at BES on Friday, June 15 at 11:30 am

We are holding a Ribbon Cutting for Bucyrus Safety Town in its new PERMANENT location at Bucyrus Elementary School on Friday, June 15 at 11:30 am.

Stop, look & listen;
before we cross the street.
Use your eyes, use your ears;
and then you use your feet.

Brought to Bucyrus in 2014 through the efforts of local Girl Scout Sarah Lipscomb and a cadre of community volunteers and donors, Bucyrus Safety Town has offered fun safety preparation and training for hundreds of local children during their weeklong summer sessions. Children learn about community helpers, how to stay safe as pedestrians and as bike riders, fire safety, and more.

Until this year, Safety Town has been a transient destination, set up each year in a variety of area parking lots, with streets, crossing walks, bike lanes, etc. marked with duct tape and featuring a village of buildings constructed by volunteers. Sarah worked for the past year to bring sustainability and stability to Safety Town, soliciting sponsors and consulting with school officials to establish a permanent location for the village on the playground at Bucyrus Elementary School.

Painted by Richland Sealcoat (who also donated to the project), the streets and green lawns of the newly permanent Bucyrus Safety Town will offer a great new home to the original village buildings which are still in use.

Many thanks to Sarah Lipscomb, who is hoping to earn her Girl Scout Gold Award through her hard work and dedication to ensuring the sustainability of this important community project, and to the many volunteers and donors who helped her establish Bucyrus Safety Town. See a full list of the founding donors as well as a list of the 2018 Bucyrus Safety Town sponsors here.

Join us in celebrating Safety Town’s new home at 11:30 am on Friday, June 15!
