The Bucyrus Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its 26th annual golf outing Wednesday August 4 at the Golf Club of Bucyrus. With thirty-seven teams participating, it was the largest outing to date. Jessie Furner, Executive Director of the Chamber, said “What a great day of golf. We are so pleased with the turnout. This wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our sponsors and everyone who volunteered. Nate is a dynamo and really took a lot of the anxiety off of my shoulders. I can’t say enough good things about the Club, Old 30 and everyone who works there. This outing took plenty of work by the hands of many, but I feel like it was a success in every way.”
One of the participants was Frank Fischer, who at 88 years old, still enjoys the game. Frank, while Chamber Director in the early ‘90’s, along with Dave Dostal, a Chamber Board member, started the annual golf outing. Frank reflected on the first outings, “Dave and I thought a golf outing would be a great opportunity for our members to socialize and network. The idea was to have an outing, not a tournament. The focus was on a social event, not to determine the best golfers. I think the first outing had just 18 teams and it was just golf, no dinner. I am pleased to see that the event has stayed true to the original intent, and has continued to grow.”
The outing has been held every year at The Gold Club of Bucyrus, formerly, Bucyrus Country Club. The course, founded in 1925, is both beautiful and challenging. A fixture in the community for nearly 100 years. Nate Smith, course manger, stated “We look forward to hosting the outing every year. It’s always fun, and it gives us a chance to show off the course. We appreciate the partnership with the Chamber, and Jessie does an amazing job.”
Food was provided by Old 30 Barbeque and Cooper’s Mill, both popular restaurants in Bucyrus.
Jessie Furner summarized the day, “We had great weather, great golf, and lots of fun for our members. We are already planning for next years event. If anyone would like to volunteer or find out more about the outing and all BACC events, please email [email protected]”
